Symbiosis was the film shown inside The Land pavilion at EPCOT Center, presented by Kraft, the pavilion’s sponsor. It opened with the pavilion on October 1, 1982 and ran until January 1, 1995, when it was replaced by Circle of Life: An Environmental Fable.

The roughly 18-minute film explores symbiosis — the mutually beneficial partnerships between living things — and humanity’s relationship with the land and water. Rather than a character-driven attraction, it takes a more serious documentary tone than most park films, asking guests to look closely at the natural systems that sustain life and at how people fit within them.

That tone suited its home. The Land was built around food, farming, and the environment, and Symbiosis gave those ideas a quiet, reflective frame before guests moved on to the pavilion’s other experiences. Its subject was not a single hero or story, but a pattern: creatures, plants, and people depending on one another, often in ways that are easy to overlook.

The recording preserved here is the complete audio of the film, running 18 minutes and 26 seconds. Heard on its own, it works as a time capsule of EPCOT Center’s opening era — earnest, educational, and unhurried, in the voice of a park that believed a film about ecology belonged beside its rides and shows.

For a companion listen from the same pavilion, hear the Kitchen Kabaret show, The Land’s musical revue from the same opening-day era.
